Welcome to learning, Lee Stream style! Here at Lee Stream School, we take a unique, family-style approach to education. With all ages learning in one class, our students gain not only a strong grasp of their own learning level or phase but also benefit from the knowledge and support of their peers. This makes for a rich, collaborative environment where every child thrives at their own pace.
Structured Literacy – Building Strong Foundations
We’re passionate about literacy! Our structured literacy programme provides students with a solid foundation in reading and writing, making sure every child’s literacy journey is a success. We combine traditional pen-and-paper techniques with digital resources to create a balanced, comprehensive approach to literacy. From the earliest steps to more advanced skills, our literacy teaching is clear, hands-on, and loads of fun.
Maths – Making Sense with Numicon
Our approach to maths is hands-on and engaging. We use Numicon, a tactile resource that helps students at every level visualise maths concepts and deepen their understanding. From building number skills to exploring advanced topics, students love the hands-on activities that bring maths to life. Our senior students even take part in the Otago Problem Solving Challenge, where they fly high and sharpen their skills against real-world problems.
We believe in connecting our learning to real-life situations, making maths meaningful and relevant to our students’ lives. Every lesson is a chance to think critically, collaborate, and tackle challenges that build both confidence and capability.
Other Curriculum Areas – Well-Resourced Learning
At Lee Stream, we’re well-equipped and ready to explore all areas of the New Zealand Curriculum. From science and social sciences to arts and digital technology, our students enjoy a well-rounded education filled with curiosity and creativity. Our senior students enter the Otago Primary Science Fair each year, where they showcase their projects with pride and consistently achieve impressive results.
We’re also incredibly fortunate to live in an area filled with talented locals. We love getting community members in to share their expertise with us – whether it’s sports skills, arts and crafts, or even the unique history of the area. Our students gain so much from these special experiences, making learning relevant, memorable, and connected to the world around us.
Our programme is designed to build confident, capable learners, and as a small, single-class whānau, we’re big on supporting one another, working together, and making learning a truly rewarding experience. Welcome to Lee Stream – where every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and celebrate success!
